2011 Stock Estimate of Overseas FilipinosNot every Filipino who leaves the country is an overseas Filipino worker (OFW). The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) estimates that, as of 2011, 10.44 million Philippine-born Filipinos are residing or working overseas.

Fil-Am Group Triumphant in the Reinstatement of Overseas Filipino Voters

That Filipino-American leader Rodel Rodis called the reinstatement of the voting rights of some 238,000 Overseas Filipinos a major victory. Yesterday, the Philippine Commission on Elections (COMELEC) voted to reinstate over 238,000 overseas Filipino voters, who were earlier delisted, for failing to vote in two consecutive elections in the Philippines.

Remittance firm promotes wise money management

RIINGEN says many OFWs and their families do not save for the future.

Although remittances from overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) continue to rise, with a whopping $21.4 million (about P877.4 million) sent to the country last year, all that money does not necessarily translate to a financially secure future for the Philippines' "new heroes."

Re-enfranchising OFWs

I am glad the Commission on Elections (Comelec) re-enfranchised 238,557 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and professionals. Earlier this year, it deleted their names from the National Registry of Overseas Absentee Voters for their failure to vote during the last two consecutive elections held in 2007 and 2010. But on March 5, the poll body interpreted the law more liberally, reversed its earlier decision, and allowed our overseas kababayan to remain on the voters' list.
