Congratulations 2012 Migration Advocacy and Media Awards Winners!

12 media entries composed of print articles and books, film and documentaries, websites and blog, and advertisement are this year's Migration Advocacy and Media (MAM) Award winners. Now on its second year, the MAM Awards, which was conceived in 2011 by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) in line with the Celebration of the Month of Overseas Filipinos and International Migrants Day in the Philippines, aim to recognize the significant role of the media in raising public awareness on issues related to Filipino migration, the challenges of migration and development, and advocate the cause and promote a positive image of Filipinos overseas.

First Regional Forum on Migration

cebuforumThe Inter-Agency Committee on the Celebration of Month of Overseas Filipinos, chaired and co-chaired by the Philippine Migrants Rights Watch and the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, held its first Regional Forum on Migration in Cebu City on November 23, 2012. The forum was participated by 120 representatives from LGUs, OFWs, members of their families, civil society organizations, government agencies and other stakeholders in the migration process, particularly from Region 7. The forum aims to mainstream the concept of migration and development by sharing experiences and best practices at the LGU level, as well as share success stories of overseas Filipinos as they reintegrate back to the Philippines.

Commission on Filipinos Overseas schedules Second Global Summit on February 2013

Officials from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) announce the upcoming 2nd Global Summit of Filipinos in the Diaspora scheduled on February 25-27 next year at a press launch in Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City last November 14, 2012. Speaking before an assembly of media representatives and major sponsors are (from left) CFO Secretary Imelda M. Nicolas and Undersecretary Mary Grace Ampil-Tirona.

The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) announced that it will be holding the 2nd Global Summit of Filipinos in the Diaspora at Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City on February 25-27, 2013. Secretary Imelda M. Nicolas, CFO Chairperson,  personally made the official announcement in front of a select group of news editors and reporters recently.

CFO supports passage of the Amended Overseas Absentee Voting Act

The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) supports the passage of Senate Bill 3312 or An Act Amending Republic Act No. 9189 otherwise known as The Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) Act of 2003. The CFO is jubilant that the Amended OAV Act is getting the much needed support from the Senate, which is set to pass some game-changing amendments to the OAV Act. One of those is to make online voting for overseas Filipinos a reality.

CFO conducts Manila Consultative Meeting for December conference on migration trends and key issues in SEA countries and the EU

The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), in cooperation with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and with the support from the European Union's (EU) Initiative "Migration European Union Expertise" (MIEUX), conducted the Manila Consultative Meeting last October 11, at the Century Park Hotel, Manila. This is in line with the project "Advancing Regional Cooperation on International Migration among Southeast Asian (SEA) countries."
