US and the Philippines Successfully Launched MICIC Guidelines at United Nations

No country is immune to conflict or natural disaster. When such crises erupt, migrants that are present in the country experiencing a crisis can fall through the cracks of emergency and post-crisis responses. Recognizing this reality, the United States and the Philippines, after two years of global, broad and inclusive consultation process, launched the “GUIDELINES TO PROTECT MIGRANTS IN COUNTRIES EXPERIENCING CONFLICT OR NATURAL DISASTER” at UN Headquarters, New York on June 15, 2016.

President Aquino Orders Creation of Philippine Steering Committee for Financial Inclusion

As a commitment to building a more inclusive and development-oriented financial system, especially for the poor, President Benigno Aquino III signed on June 2, 2016, Executive Order No. 208, ordering the establishment of Financial Inclusion Steering Committee.  Financial inclusion or an inclusive financial system is a state wherein there is effective access to a wide range of financial products and services by all.

The United States and the Philippines Launch Global Guidelines to Protect Migrants

On June 10, 2016, under the leadership of the United States and the Republic of the Philippines, the Migrants in Countries in Crisis (MICIC) Initiative published the “Global Guidelines to Protect Migrants in Countries Experiencing Conflict or Natural Disaster.”  The initiative was co-led by the United States and the Republic of the Philippines and, recognizing that no country is immune to conflict or natural disaster, publication of the guidelines follows two years of consultations with governments in all regions of the world and with a wide range of private sector employers, civil society, diaspora and migrant organizations.  Expert input and promising practices were incorporated into this set of Guidelines that promote the principles of saving lives, call for migrants to get assistance in emergencies without discrimination, and foster respect for the human rights of migrants, regardless of immigration status.

ADVISORY: 2016 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas

The Commission on Filipinos Overseas respectfully reminds the public that the deadline for the submission of the nominations to the 2016 PRESIDENTIAL AWARDS FOR FILIPINO INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS OVERSEAS is on 31 May 2016.

Pursuant to Executive Order No. 498 Institutionalizing the Presidential Awards, and to ensure due consideration of a broad base of deserving and outstanding individuals and organizations overseas, the Awards Committees at the Philippine Foreign Service Posts may accept and endorse in accordance with existing requirements, nominations from those who choose to be nominated by themselves.
